Summer ‘brain’ shape up

2 Jul

Hello blog friends! I feel I hardly have time to blog these days, the weather has been great and socialising has been a priority. Last night I went to a pub quiz, we came in 5th, but not thanks to me! I think I answered about 3 questions! It was really hard, the questions were all on a theme such as eyes, stars and pigs. Then there was a page filled with pictures of pirates. The pirates were all played by famous actors and we had to guess the actor and the film, considering I have no interest in pirates that round was not my favourite. I managed to recognise Gena Davis in Cutthroat Island and Johnny Depp in Pirates but that was it! One of the women in our team was a real brainiac and when the conversation turned to poilitics and current affairs I was left looking a little clueless!

So that’s the reason for my Summer Brain Shape Up. Of course I’ll continue with the gym and trying to shape up my body but for the next 6 weeks (the length of our school’s holidays) I’ll be trying to increase the wattage of my heaviest organ!

Here’s the plan Stan:

1. I will watch the news or read a paper every day. ( I have suspicions that yahoo news is making my less intelligent!)

2. I will read 3 classics:

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera (I already started this and it’s pretty good so far)

Animal Farm by George Orwell (I liked 1984 but the thought of political animals kind of put me off this one)

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (I wonder what the F stands for?)

3. I will write non-blog for an hour most days.

4. I will watch more diverse movies (my chick-flick obsessions is not improving my grey matter)

That’s it! What do you think? Do you ever take part in quizes? Do you have a good level of general knowledge?

Sounds like a great challenge. I did a quiz on holiday and we were ok but not great. The most I do to try and improve my knowledge is read the guardian website – I do try and make an effort to read the high brow articles, honestly!
