Learning to Run

6 Mar

So this afternoon I cleaned up the kitchen and then relaxed, read some blogs and drank one of these:

Mmmm, there is not a Starbucks to be found for miles around so sometimes I like to pretend 😉 These babies come in at just under a hundred calories and have absolutely no nutritional merit. Meh. Sometimes you just have to enjoy the simple things in life. Or stop and smell the coffee, so to speak. (Pun very much intended- whoever said puns made for poor humour?)

I headed to the gym around 3, I have to be pretty prompt at the weekends as the gym closes at 5 and I like to have a shower there, after building up a sweat. The work-out I did is posted on my Work-outs page and was basically 55 minutes of intervals on various cardio machines. I am attempting to learn to run at the moment and am following a ‘run a mile in a month’ plan. So today was my 3rd day of:  jog a minute, walk 3. You can find the plan here. (see how I just posted my first link? I’m very proud!) The plan says to jog a minute and walk for 4 but I find 4 minutes too long so I shortened it to 3. Monday shall be my first day of jog for 2 minutes, walk for 3.  Not sure I will manage that, will give it a go though.

Snack

Post work-out I had been intending on having a yoghurt but I found a chocolate milk drink in the vending machine at the gym and I really wanted to try it. I binned the carton there and didn’t have my camera to snap a pic. I can’t even remember the brand name- ugh. Anyway it had 200mls, cost 45p, 100cals and 7.6g protein. I think it did ok. Plus it was rather yummy.

Dinner

I am a terrible cook. Scratch that-  I cannot cook. Plain and simple. I used to exist on frozen pizzas. If they weren’t so calorific there is a chance that I still would. When you see my dinner pictures please do not judge me!

I have been trying to get more veggies into my daily diet. I am a picky eater and am trying to slowly broaden my horizons. Starting with grilling vegetables. I have never done that before. While I have the grill going I may aswell grill some cheese sandwiches . . .

This meal was really yummy. The veg got a little tiresome about halfway through so I gave them a shake of garlic salt. I like how easy it is to grill and how little clean-up there is. Washing dishes = boring. The view while I ate:

I still have my birthday cards up. I really need to put them away as my birthday was a whole month ago! Maybe I shall do that tomorrow. So for dessert I thought I’d eat the rest of the fruit salad I made earlier:

and make a yoghurt mess. I am having yoghurt issues though. I live in a small town with a small supermarket and not much variety.  This week I was left with this yoghurt:

I was trying to get to the strawberry one but I managed to rip the lid on the raspberry one in the process. So I figured I had better have that one. I was unsure about these yoghurts for several reasons:

1. They are labelled as ‘low-fat’, which I have found to mean ‘extra sugar and sweeteners’

2. They come in a pack of 4 and one of the varieties is toffee which I don’t think I will like, and

3. The second ingredient is sugar and they have a long ingredients list with things on there that I definitely wouldn’t stock in my cupboard.

I added a little drop of these to the mix:

MMMMMmmmmm this was lovely! Nom nom as this girl would say! The yoghurt was actually really delicious and all the flavours went together really well. I will have to try the toffee yoghurt before I can give my thumbs up to Rowan Glen but it looks promising 🙂

Is it just me or does it look like I’ve had 3 breakfasts today?  I have to admit breakfast is my favourite meal 😀

5 a day: √ (I realise this is the symbol for square root but I can’t find a tick!)

exercise: √

Tried something new: √

Breakfasts: 3

Goal for tomorrow: 3 portions of vegetables

Hey thanks for visiting! I got the cheerios in co-op 🙂 was looking for something to bulk up home-made trail mix type snacks, but now I can’t stop adding them to everything. I looked at your blog- love the cereal post. There are so many I have yet to try, I’ll get there eventually! 🙂

It’s full of all kinds of no-nos but it’s one of my almost daily luxuries. One day I shall get around to cutting it out! Loving your blog BTW.

My friend and I are doing the Couch to 5K program right now. I used to be a “runner” way back in the day before my hubby and two kiddos came along. Now I am super duper out of shape and trying to get back after it. If after you finish the Run a Mile in a Month program you want to go for a 5K, I highly recommend the program. You can even download a podcast so that you know when to start/stop running + some motivation during the runs. 🙂

I have just seen that Starbucks now do an instant coffee that you can take home in a sachet call Starbucks VIA! So the next time you are near a store you can stock up! – how cool is that?
